Policy Guide for Volunteers and Clients
Interfaith Volunteers Vision
We’re so glad you’re here. Whether you’re a new volunteer or someone seeking services, Interfaith Volunteers is here to support independent, safe living for older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout the Brainerd Lakes Area.
Our organization is powered by a network of compassionate volunteers and generous donors who believe in the simple idea of neighbors helping neighbors.
Interfaith Volunteers Mission
To help low-income seniors and persons with disabilities live safely and comfortably in their own homes for as long as possible.
We Believe In:
- Promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life
- Filling in the gaps when other resources are unavailable
- Connecting people with meaningful, practical help
- Serving others through faith-inspired action
Our Services
Transportation (Rides)
- Volunteers provide rides for:
- Medical and therapy appointments
- Grocery shopping
- Essential Errands
- All ride requests must be scheduled through the Interfaith Volunteers office.
- We Prioritize medical appointments and groceries
Home Safety (Ramps and Repairs)
We build ramps and install grab bars, railings, or low-rise steps to help clients remain safely at home. Note: We do NOT handle major repairs, roofing, electrical work, or tree removal.
Companionship (Visits)
Our volunteers make phone or in-person visits to homebound or lonely individuals. Sometimes, we’re the only consistent human connection someone has – and that matters.
The Role of the Volunteer
Volunteers are the hands and hearts of Interfaith Volunteers. Whether driving someone to a doctor’s visit, building a ramp, or making a check-in call, your kindness makes a real difference.
As a Volunteer You Are:
- A listener, not a fixer
- A helper, not a caretaker
- A neighbor, not a professional
We Ask That You:
- Maintain respectful boundaries
- Keep all personal information private
- Communicate clearly and kindly
- Say “no” when needed and honor your own limits
- Coordinate all services through the Interfaith Volunteers office
- Never accept payment (donation envelopes are available)
The Role of the Client
Clients of Interfaith Volunteers are partners in our mission. We’re here to help, but we ask for respect and clear communication so we can serve you well.
Clients Are Expected To:
- Contact the Interfaith Volunteers office to schedule services (never call a volunteer directly)
- Treat volunteers with kindness and gratitude
- Use family and friends for help with possible
- Understand that services are based on volunteer availability
- Notify us as soon as possible if a ride or visit must be canceled
Please note: We may not be able to fulfill last-minute or emergency requests, and we do not provide personal or hands-on care (transferring, medications, toileting, etc.).
A Note on Privacy and Respect
We take confidentiality seriously. Volunteers and staff are expected to keep all personal information private and secure. This includes names, addresses, health details, or anything else shared in trust.
Likewise, we’re all responsible for creating a safe and respectful environment. Any form of verbal abuse, intoxication, or inappropriate requests may result in dismissal from the program – for volunteers or clients.
Thank You!
Together, we serve more than 1,500 people each year. None of it would be possible without caring neighbors like you. Whether you’re offering a ride, building a ramp, or receiving a helping hand, you are a valuable part of this community.
